Your child’s molars will come in at around 5-7 years of age with a second set coming in between 11-14
A sealant placed when the molars first come in will ensure they are protected early. The procedure starts when adhesive is first applied to the teeth. Next, the sealant is placed over the adhesive and is painted right on to the tooth. The liquid hardens and creates a barrier between the tooth and any plaque, food particles and bacteria. Sealants last for about 10 years and can be reapplied if needed.
Whether you have a young child in need of molar sealants, an older child looking for a custom-fit mouthguard or just
need standard pediatric dentistry, Dr. Thao Mehlhoff, will treat them
with care and detail.
Wearing a mouth guard helps protect against structural damage to your child’s teeth and jaw and have even been shown to help decrease the risk of concussions. While most sporting goods stores carry mouth guards, these are usually ill-fitting and uncomfortable. For the highest in protection and comfort, a custom-fit mouth guard should be used. Come see Dr. Thao Mehlhoff, for your child’s custom mouth guard fitting.
